iConcepts,  one of Nigeria’s leading multi-channel solutions providers of mobile technology and Value Added services, VAS, yesterday launched mGen.ng, a ground breaking and simple cloud based mobile marketing platform that enables businesses and organizations of any size to boost sales, customer engagement and marketing Return on Investment, ROI, using efficient Short Message Service, SMS, capabilities.
Speaking at the product launch, Ugo Okoye, Founder/Chief Executive Officer, iConcepts explicated that mGen.ng uses short codes and unique keywords to build opted-in audiences, collect customer feedback and send auto-responses to inbound messages. For example, “Text ‘YES’ to 30380 and someone will call you back,” or “Text ‘OFFER’ to 30380 to get our latest products and special offers.” The platform according to him, then aggregates this data for processing through a robust dashboard, generating detailed reports, graphs and profiled databases that are extremely valuable and targeted for any company.
Okoye stated that mGen.ng is a very dynamic and simple to use platform that is ideal for both public and private sector organizations including Finance, Fast Moving Consumer Goods, FMCG, Manufacturing, Retail, Education, Health and Government.
Other sectors that make use of the platform are Information Technology, IT, Media, Transport, Travel, Religion and Service industries.
He explained that the platform was built to assist companies particularly the SMEs to enhance their customer engagement. In his words: “The SMS technology and short codes have been around for a while but these are used mainly by big companies. But we have been thinking of how we can help the Small Medium Enterprises, SMEs use the platform as well, and at cheaper rates. So we introduced mGen.ng.
“Technology and innovation are the key drivers for business growth especially in tough economic times. Businesses must adopt a mobile first approach to stay competitive, drive sales and satisfy their customers in an ever-increasing tech savvy world.”
Expounding on the reach of the mobile technology platform, the CEO said that there is basically no industry that cannot use mobile and therefore mGen.ng for their operations. He stated that “we live in a very techy world. Mobile is everything in the country. Mobile is basically a medium every company should use in reaching their customers because people use mobile for almost everything, from checking their health status, to booking flights, to renting apartments and so on.
“It’s a powerful tool that cannot be ignored and more and more people are spending time mostly with their phones every day. An average person spends not fewer  than three hours on a whole per day on their mobile phones. Research shows that 98 % of messages are read compared to other mediums of communication. Despite the technologies you cannot ignore traditional channels. It is important therefore, that the mobile channels are not ignored.
Bolaji Akerele, Lead, Innovation and Business Partners, highlighted some of the key features of mGen.ng which include zero-rated short codes which allows customers to participate for free, self-service tools to customize the user experience for each campaign or service, and API tools to enable integration with an existing management system.
He said that the platform was built to help customers get real time engagement as it makes use of the traditional process of using SMS to reach customers who do not have smart phones or data. Akerele added that “the platform will allow many companies create value through quality interactions they previously couldn’t access; and most importantly, it is very easy to set up an account at a very low price.”
He explained that mGen.ng consists of two pricing plans namely Standard Pricing for small and medium enterprises with a month charge of 50,000 Naira and, the Premium Plan for corporate organisations with a service plan of 100, 000 Naira and above, depending on the level of integration and customisation the organisation is interested in.
