President of the Advertisers’ Association of Nigeria, ADVAN, Folake Ani-Mumuney has promised that the association will proactively create an empowered future in marketing communications.

Folake who stated this yesterday at the ADVAN Awards for Marketing Excellence 2017 West Africa to mark the celebration of the association’s 25 years anniversary in Lagos said that every member of the association should support their drive for the association to achieve greatness. She said this becomes imperative as the task ahead cannot be driven by executive alone but, through the collective efforts of every member of the association.

She sees, “an ADVAN that has its rightful place at the table and a voice that counts in all matters that affects the industry today and what the industry will be tomorrow.”

To achieve this she opined, “effective stakeholders’ engagement across the entire stakeholders’ spectrum is therefore an essential cornerstone in building the ADVAN we want.”

The president said ADVAN will continue to deepen the markets and build capacity through the facilitation of data and research for insight-driven marketing and communications.

In this data economy, she said, ADVAN’s objective to be at the driving seat in pursuit of a data-centric industry remains a top priority, adding that as new models and channels of marketing emerge and become increasingly borderless, marketing practitioners must not be caught napping, but must pay serious attention to Ad word pricing as practitioners pay attention to news print Ad pricing.

She said proactive ADVAN must serve as catalyst for the progressive strategic marketing thinking demanded by the future.

In her word:

“We must be though leaders in the industry and as though leaders we must think for today and the future. The future is now and the age of disruption is firmly upon us. As architect of our future we must disrupt if we are not to be disrupted. I believe we must remain at the vanguard of driving the true value for our members, empowering ourselves through relevant professional empowerment trainings and seminars effective networking opportunities, knowledge sharing and capacity building initiatives.

In the 25 years of the association’s existence, it has hit many milestones and quickly evolved from its initial position of pressure group to become the industry though leader. ADVAN has gained tremendous relevance and has been able to create tangible value for advertisers and the industry as a whole.

The association has recorded some giant strides as it has not only gained recognition but acceptance and respect in the industry. It is interesting to know that from a membership strength of 28 in inception in 1992, the membership strength of the association has risen to more than 70 members which account for over 85 per cent of the country’s ad spend.
