APCON Inducts New Registered Practitioners, Graduates

The Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) has inducted 73 new members into the professional advertising practice. Also, some associate registered practitioners were upgraded to full membership and about 172 students from its professional diploma in advertising programme graduated.

The Graduation/Induction ceremony took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos recently and was attended by industry top players across sectors.

APCON Registrar, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo while addressing the graduands, task them to work assiduously to improve themselves and support the efforts of the Council.

“As you are obligated today and registered in accordance with the provisions of the Act (Act, CAP A7, Laws of Federation of Nigerian 2004) to legitimately practice advertising profession in Nigeria, we encourage you to work assiduously to improve yourselves and support the efforts of the Council conscientiously and in full knowledge that as a stakeholder your contributions and support are valuable for the growth of the profession,” he said.

He added, “It is also important to note that APCON recognizes the importance of continuous training and constant engagement with young professionals in our industry. We encourage you to consider our training programmes a priority for your personal development and to participate in them regularly.”

The guest speaker, Mr. Jimmy Awosika on his own part urged the graduands and the new registered practitioners to distinguish themselves in the industry and for them to be leaders in today’s technology disrupted world they have to deploy innovation.

“In a new world where the appreciation of the worth of just about every offering is in decline, what is needed is disruptive self re-invention.
For the marketing communications profession, our first new purpose should be to cause a rethink of the very reason why the practice is necessary in the first place.


“There is a crying need to bring both practitioners and clients back to the fundamental objectives of our practice, because we now live in an environment where new definitions that run contrary to the high purpose and ideals of marketing communication are gaining currency.” He explained.

Noteworthy, the law establishing APCON empowers it to determine who are advertising practitioners and maintain a register of practitioners. Pursuant to this provision APCON conducts inductions from time to time to admit/ initiate qualified persons into the advertising profession. New practitioners are first inducted as associates. With more years of practice and training the inductees get upgraded to full membership cadre.
