O2 Academy Launches Online Ad School, Unveils Biodun Shobanjo As Grand Patron

In a move to help grow the integrated marketing communication (IMC) industry and produce more professionals, Oxygen (O2) Academy, Nigeria’s premier advertising school has unveiled an online advertising school to enable more individuals access quality trainings with just a click of a button from their doorsteps irrespective of location.

Similarly, it announced that the doyen of Nigeria’s advertising industry and the chairman of Troyka Group, Biodun Shobanjo is the grand patron of the academy and he will be sharing insights from his years’ of experience spanning over decades on the online school soon which will inspire young people and professionals on how to build a sustainable business.

The founder and provost of O2 Academy, Ozoemena Mbanefo, fondly called Ozone, made this known to journalists during the press conference held on Wednesday, 2nd June 2021 to announce the launch of the online school.

According to him, “Bidoun Shobanjo is our grand patron, he is the grandfather of advertising in Nigeria and almost all of the advertising agencies in this country spring up from Insight Communications (his agency, now Insight Publicis) as some of their founders have once worked with the agency. He is our father let me use that word and he will soon be delivering a section on our platform (02 academy online school), on how to build a sustainable IMC business.”

Commenting on what inspired the establishment of the online school, Ozone explained that the initiative has been in the pipeline for years with the intent of connecting instructors or facilitators to globe students but the spread of COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the process. He added that it is a video on demand platform where students log in after making payment and can continue to watch from anywhere they stop anytime whether due to lack of data or any other reasons.

He explained further that students will attend one-month compulsory on site internship at the academy after completion of the online courses to exam them if they truly understand all what they have learnt online and would get certificate thereafter.

“The 02 academy online school has two categories of certification. The Oxygen Brand Experience Certification online is the one you get when you have covered all the courses on line. The other certification which is the TBE regular is the one you get when you complete the entire course modules for the discipline you want to go for and has also attended the one-month compulsory on site internship at the academy and has passed the 02 Academy final.

“The full 02 Academy Total Brand Experience Certification will be issued to the candidate upon his or her satisfactory performance in the exams.”

On partnership, Ozone disclosed that the academy partnered with media companies, tech companies and instructors. Some of the instructors in the IMC space in Nigeria include Lanre Adisa, Nnenna Onyewuchi,Feyi Olubodun, among others.

 “So, we have the top guns in the Brands & Communication, Marketing & Advertising (IMC) industry. We have a partnership structure in place with the industry Experts who deliver the sessions on our platform. It works like what you have with the Uber platform, where the driver, rider and the Uber brand all have a stake in the business.

“Basically, we connect the industry experts to those who need the knowledge. So, everybody is a stakeholder. It’s not just an O2 academy thing. It’s an industry thing. We seek outstanding professionals in the industry,” he said.
