FoodBay TV Extends Footprint With StreetFoodz Ghana
…As Gino Assumes Headline Sponsorship Role
Maxima Media, owners of FoodBay TV, producers and curators of StreetFoodz Naija- arguably the biggest food docu-reality series in Africa, have extended their tentacles in the continent with the berthing of StreetFoodz Ghana.
Speaking recently in a chat with Brand Communicator, Olufemi Ogundoro, Managing Director of Maxima Media Group said that the move is in line with the vision of FoodBay TV to put African food on the world food map.
“Over the years with all that we have done with Street Foodz Naija, having a successful outing for the second season; what we did thereafter was to set up and have a presence in major African countries namely, Nigeria where it started from, Ghana, Kenya and we have plans right now of having such presence in Southern Africa.
“It is not just enough to curate and create content out of these markets to showcase to the rest of the world; it is also very important to have content that is relevant, is of global standards but have local relevance to citizens of the respective countries in question. That is what brought about a number of the shows that the platform has done from Instanta, to Streetfoodz Naija, to Dining With The Stars among other shows.
“We decided that the one that will work most especially for Ghana in the last quarter of the year will be Streetfoodz Ghana. When you ask, why Ghana? The question we will throw back to you is why not? Ghana is a major market within the West African sector, and a lot of good things have been going on within that space in terms of leadership, economic stability and a number of things generally. If you look at Ghana and its level of appreciation of culture as it relates to art, cuisine, those Eastern Region, Greater Accra e were things on the research done by the FoodBay team, is a lot higher than some other countries in Africa, hence the need to expand here,” he explained.
Speaking more on the show, Ogundoro explained that Streetfoodz Ghana is a reality TV format that will be showing on four major tv stations in Ghana, which includes ADOM TV, Joy Prime, Max TV and then, GH1.
Already, the show has kickstarted with the call for entry ongoing where registration from street vendors across Accra, Kumasi, Central, Northern and Eastern Regions, everywhere across the Republic of Ghana pouring in, to vie for one of the 13 slots on the show.
Organisers of the show have announced that the Gino brand has taken up sponsorship of the show as the headline sponsor. Ogundoro speaks on this: “At the moment, we have a brand that is backing up this project, seeing not just the potential but the successes recorded in a country as tough as Nigeria. They felt that with a country with a population not as big-around 40 million people, we should be able to, in one or two seasons, cover up and own that space. That is why we have Gino onboard as the headline sponsor for Streetfoodz Ghana.”
Broadcast of the show is scheduled to commence on the 23rd of October and will run from that day to the next 30 weeks. The grand finale is going to hold sometime in December/January.
Launched in 2019, Street Foodz show is aimed at promoting local cuisine, as well as supporting entrepreneurs in the food sector and rebranding street foods. Just like the maiden edition, and the subsequent one, the 30 minutes televised and digitally transmitted docu-reality series will showcase the best of Africa’s street food delicacies.
