APCON Orders The Withdrawal Of Glo Advert Featuring Osas Igbodaro Over Indecent Dressing
The Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, APCON, has directed that telecommunications company, Glo, withdraw its Glo Link Your NIN commercial featuring Nigerian actress model, Osas Igbodaro.
The withdrawal was issued in a statement signed by APCON Registrar/Chief Registrar, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, on Wednesday.
According to the statement, Dr. Fadolapo said the campaign which was not approved by the regulatory body before airing across broadcast stations and social media platform is against the code of ethics of Advertising in Nigeria.
Fadolapo said the commercial targeted at the Nigerian market elicited complaints about the exposure of the model’s cleavage.
APCON added that it has written to the management of Globalcom Limited and media houses to stop further exposure of the advertisement/commercial on all media platforms (broadcast and social media.
The statement read in part; “The advertisment was neither submitted nor approved for exposure by the Advertising Standards Panel (ASP), the statutory body charged with the responsibility of ensuring that advertisements conform with the prevailing laws of the federation as well as the code of ethics of Advertising in Nigeria.
“We have also written to media stations and the relevant government agencies in this regard.
“APCON is committed to ensuring that the advertising ecosystem is sanitized and shall use all lawful means including causing the prosecution of violators of the Advertising laws of the federation.”
