The Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Mrs. Comfort Obot Nwankwo has unveiled plans for the 2023 edition of the Lagos Public Relations Industry Gala and Awards (LaPRIGA). She announced the introduction of two new awards categories.

Mrs. Nwankwo revealed the plans in a press conference held in Lagos. She emphasised that excellence will be celebrated in the realms of Community Relations, Political Communication, Corporate Social Responsibility, and support of PR. LaPRIGA will recognize the Agency of the Year, Model Agency of All Time, Public Relations Journalist of the Year, and Photo & Video Journalist of the Year.

The awards themed “The Game Changer”, according to her, is on the lookout for campaigns that embody creativity and genuine game-changing impacts. Every year, LaPRIGA continues to set higher standards in our ongoing effort to elevate the industry. The competition for these awards has grown significantly, with stakeholders showing more interest than ever before.

Speaking on the new categories, she said “In line with our commitment to global environmental concerns, we are introducing a new category, ‘Best in Environment/Sustainability Campaign.’ We strongly encourage PR professionals engaged in environmental and sustainability campaigns to participate wholeheartedly. We are adding the ‘Best in Public Sector Campaign’ category, alongside the existing ‘Outstanding Public Affairs Practitioner’ category. This new addition aims to celebrate innovative PR initiatives at all levels of governance”.

She also revealed that LaPRIGA has extended beyond the realm of communication practice alone. In her words, “ We are honouring an outstanding individual who lives with autism and developmental disorders and has a remarkable track record of achievement in the corporate world, aligning with our theme of “The Game Changer.” We are collaborating with the Patrick Speech and Languages Centre in this regard”.

Nwankwo stated that just like in past years, members of the Lagos Chapter of NIPR will play a central role in the 2023 Awards, from the nomination process to the selection of winners. Stakeholders in the industry can participate this year by nominating candidates in various categories, casting their votes for preferred nominees after the shortlisting by the Awards Panel, seeking sponsorship support from their respective organizations and gracing the awards night with their presence and glamour.

She disclosed that nomination entries will be open till November 13, while voting will begin on November 27 and end on December 8, 2023, and the Gala night on December 21, 2023.

LaPRIGA features a wide range of categories, including Best in Technology Public Relations, Best in Public Relations Education, Best in Hospitality PR, Best in Political Communication, Best in Entertainment PR, and Best Use of Research & Measurement.

Additional award categories recognise excellence in Public Relations Practitioner of the Year, Corporate Communication Professional of the Year, Most Influential PR Professional, and Outstanding Public Affairs Practitioner of the Year.
