ACSPN Holds 11th Annual Conference In Lagos, Unveils New Draft Constitution
The Association of Communication Scholars & Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) has announced the unveiling of a draft new Constitution which is to be adopted at its 11th Annual Conference holding from September 4 – 5, 2024 at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja.
The draft is currently on the association’s website to enable members study it and note provisions for discussion, ahead of formal ratification during the Annual General Meeting on September 5.
According to the association, this year’s conference will witness the election of new members into all offices in the National Executive, and the filling of Board of Trustees (BOT) slots
To be eligible for elections, nomination of candidates must note the few information which include five slots to be filled for the Board of Trustees which currently has four members.
The National Executive positions to be contested are: President, Deputy Presidents (2 positions), General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary I & II (two positions), Treasurer, Auditor, Vice Presidents for the six zones [South-West, South-East, South-South, North-Central, North-West, and North-East], Zonal Mobilization Officers for the six zones, Diaspora Coordinators, General Publications Editor, Deputy General Publications Editor, Brand Strategist, Publicity Secretary I & II (two positions), Welfare and Logistics Officer I & II (two positions), Information and Communication Technology Specialist I & II (two positions), and Partnerships and Networking Officer.
Also, any current member of ACSPN is eligible to nominate a candidate for the Board of Trustees. Such nomination shall be seconded by a leader at the national, zonal or state level. Eligibility for a BOT position is either based on major contributions to ACSPN or outstanding contributions to communication and media scholarship and practice in Nigeria or globally. It is important to obtain the consent of nominees for BOT positions before forwarding their names, but the final choice would be made at the AGM.
Any, current member of ACSPN is eligible to contest or nominate a candidate for any National Executive office. Such nomination shall be seconded by a leader at the national, zonal or state level. The list of current national and zonal officers is on the ACSPN website
In addition, no one occupying any office is eligible to contest for the same office. Eligibility to contest shall be determined by the performance of such candidate at the national, zonal or state level
However, all nominations are to be mailed by members to info@acspn.com.ng by or before August 26 for collation by the National Secretariat and presentation at the AGM.
All election shall be conducted for those on the list of nominated candidates received by the deadline.
For transparency, an Electoral Committee would be selected at the AGM to conduct all elections and announce the winners and no contestant would be eligible to serve on the Electoral Committee.
