Guinness World Record: Hilda Baci Sets New Record For Cooking Marathon

Nigerian chef, Hilda Bassey Effiong, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking hours by individual hitting 100 hours.

Hilda surpassed the previous record set by Lata Tondon, an Indian chef, in 2019 who cooked for 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 seconds to break the previous title.

The new record was set at 8 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023, as Hilday who was initially aiming at 96 hours further extended the cooking to 100 hours.

Baci started her cooking marathon challenge on Friday at the Amore Gardens, Lekki, Lagos State.

However, the Guinness World Record is yet to confirm her noting that they will have to review the Chef’s amazing feat before her name is finally inducted into the famous book.

At 21, Hilda considered participating in the Guinness cook-a-thon but needed to do more due to finances.

Six years later, working full-time at a fashion retail company, acting, presenting cooking TV shows, and hosting a talent show — MTN Yello Star in 2020, Hilda was finally ready to participate in the Guinness World Record cook-a-thon challenge.

The 27-year-old and her team designed over 100 recipes to be served to thousands of Nigeria at the event to stay energized on recipes and food lists to prepare.
