Standard Chartered: After Almost 20 years, Dayo Aderugbo Bows Out In Style

In life, the march of progress can lead a person upwards or downwards, depending on the bumps on the road. Sometimes it could mean closing one door permanently to open another or closing a familiar chapter to start a new, exciting one.

 For Dayo Aderugbo, the immediate past Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing for Nigeria and West Africa at Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria Ltd, stepping out of her current office, considering her achievements in almost  20 years, was a celebration of success as her names were written boldly in golden letters. This fact was confirmed by top executives, corporate chieftains, and friends who gathered at her sent-forth dinner.

The special send-forth dinner held on Monday, March 18, 2024, was organized by Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria Limited in honour of Dayo Aderugbo. She was bowing out as the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Brand, and Marketing.

Dayo started her career with the Bank as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) attaché and served the bank for almost 20 years. Over the period, Aderugbo worked in various departments of the bank including the Legal and Company Secretariat department.

Under her stewardship the Bank witnessed significant growth in exponential and innovative marketing, brand awareness, and affinity, making it one of the most respected international financial institutions in Nigeria.

Dayo  is an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife where she obtained a Law degree with Honours (LLB). She is a Barrister at Law having also received a BL Degree from the Nigeria Law School and holds a Masters Degree in Corporate and Commercial Law (LLM) from the prestigious University College (UCL), University of London, UK. Dayo has also completed a Special Executive MBA from the Metropolitan School of Business and Management, UK, and she is currently undergoing a PhD in Business Risk Management.
 
Dayo is a Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Marketing (FNIM), She is an Honorary Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Nigeria (HCIBN), and a member of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (MNIPR). She is married with a son and a daughter and enjoys travel and culture.

Present at the ceremony was the Bank’s Country Management Team led by Mr. Lamin Manjang. Also at the event were friends and family including the former Chairman of the Bank, Mr. Sola Adepetun; Her Excellency, Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof. Modupe Adelabu and Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary, Health Services and Environment (FCT Abuja).

Many colleagues and members of the management team of the bank spoke glowingly of Dayo’s passion, hard work, and dedication to excellence that not only shaped her professional career but also inspired everyone present who came to celebrate her accomplishments.

 In the words of one colleague, “Your kindness, compassion, and unwavering passion for service over the years have touched the lives of so many, both professionally and personally. Your commitment to the bank, your work, your colleagues, and your team members has left an indelible mark, and your legacy will continue to inspire future generations in this bank,”.

Dayo, who was calm and beaming with smiles throughout the event amidst cheers from well-wishers said she had every reason to be thankful to God for seeing her through the 20 years she spent in service. “It was tasking, but God gave me all the strength”. 

Dayo who always stood out for her professionalism, dress sense, and friendliness, cautioned younger staff to ensure that they create lasting marks and cordial relationships while carrying out their duties.

Indeed, she was a top-flight professional who carried out her duties with commitment, devotion, and responsibility that endeared her to the bank’s management and her colleagues.

She came, worked, and proved herself a capable corporate leader, who led by example and compassion, touching the lives of many.
