Nigerian brands have joined the rest of the world to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2022. They demonstrated their support towards the IWD day campaign theme, #BreakTheBias, besides promoting gender equity across various sectors.
Yearly, the celebration is aimed at actualizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) five and four which are to ‘‘achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls’’ and ‘‘ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning.’’
In commemoration of the annual IWD, Access Bank Plc joined other brands to host a conference as part of its commitment to inspiring, connecting, and empowering women to attain their full potential.
The conference which will take place at the Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos on Thursday, March 10, 2022, is aimed at strengthening discussions around how women across all life stages can thrive through stereotypes to attain full potential.
In another vein, Showmax, a video streaming service, announced that it will honour 30 women (Spotlight on Women in Nollywood) who have made and are making iconic contributions to Nigeria’s movie industry, Nollywood.
The company stated that during March, Showmax will publish a profile each day about a different woman who has contributed to the industry’s growth, from fast-rising stars to A-list actresses and producers. Some of these women include Bimbo Ademoye, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Genevieve Nnaji, Kate Henshaw, Chineylove Eze, Biodun Stephen, and Tope Oshin.

According to the company, the purpose of the campaign is to encourage women to share their fearless stories of how they’ve been breaking the norm in their various fields. This would create awareness for more individuals and groups to join in on the campaign. It would also inspire other women to continue to break the norm and be pretty fearless in achieving their goals and ambitions.
Also, an agribusiness firm, SWEER Global Farms, vowed to support women farmers in relevant areas to increase their productivity and profitability in commemoration of IWD 2022.
