The National Orientation Agency (NAO) and the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) are partnering to promote a National value system that represent the best of the country’s ethics.

The Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu and the President of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku made this agreement after their meeting yesterday at NOA headquarters.

Issa-Onilu took the opportunity to brief the NIPR of the effort of the Agency in recreating a value system that represents the ethical codes of the different parts of the country.

According to him the quest for a National Value Charter is an attempt to build a consensus of what constitute Nigeria’s National ethics which will guide National aspiration.

In his words, “Orientation is a journey and you cannot be begin a journey untill you know where you are going to. So the first thing to do is to define our destination before we start the journey of Orientation. When we draw up this charter, we can comfortably say that we are orientating our people towards achieving the values we already set for ourselves”

He pledged to make available to the NIPR a draft copy of the National Value Charter for their inputs believing that to be important in designing a document that reflect the views of all stakeholders.

The DG also told his guests of the Agency’s plans to set up a citizens Brigade that will lead the grassroots campaign in our schools and communities. The Brigade will also ensure that young people at impressionable age understand what being a Nigerian means.

The NOA DG also spoke of his plans to advocate for the return of nationalism studies in schools because “it is as important as English and Mathematics “

The NIPR President had urged for support for some of its programmes for the current year.
