NIPR Flags Trust Gap as 2025 Reputation Index Puts Nigeria Under Global Scrutiny

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has released the 2025 Nigeria Reputation Perception Index (NRPI), showing that while Nigeria enjoys strong global visibility, trust and credibility remain major challenges.

The data-driven report, produced with Reputation Perception Services, assessed Nigeria across seven pillars including leadership, performance, credibility, communication, innovation, social equity, and culture. Nigeria recorded an overall reputation score of 35.2 percent, reflecting high awareness but weak trust conversion.

NIPR noted that the index is not an assessment of any government but an objective measurement of how Nigeria is perceived by citizens and international stakeholders. While culture remains Nigeria’s strongest reputation asset, governance-related factors continue to shape trust outcomes, with delivery gaps and credibility concerns limiting progress.

The study was conducted between October 21 and November 23, 2025, using quantitative surveys and qualitative focus group discussions. A total of 3,911 respondents were sampled across all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and international regions including Africa, Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Oceania.

According to NIPR, the index will serve as a reference point for policymakers, investors, media organisations, and development partners seeking to close perception gaps and reposition Nigeria competitively. The institute added that the NRPI will be released annually, following its first official presentation in January 2026 at the National Assembly Library Complex in Abuja.

good day, i think a total of 3,911 respondents sampled across all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and international regions including Africa, Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Oceania is small for about 2.5 millions Nigerians, but i need to be educated.
