Nigeria’s Doctor Wales Tops TikTok Global Discover List 2026

TikTok has unveiled its Discover List 2026, spotlighting 50 global creators, with five standout talents from Sub-Saharan Africa recognized for their impact in education, food, and entrepreneurship. These creators were selected based on video creation, views, account growth, engagement, and sparking global conversations over the past six months.
Olawale Ogunlana (@doctorwalesmd) from Lagos, Nigeria, tops the Educators category as a medical doctor and founder of HealthKraft Africa. He simplifies complex medical topics into engaging videos, serving as one of TikTok’s Sub-Saharan Wellbeing Ambassadors. Ogunlana views the recognition as validation for “edutainment” in public health, extending doctors’ reach beyond clinics to millions.

Wayne Chang (@munchin_mash) from Cape Town, South Africa, blends Asian cuisines with local ingredients in vibrant recipes. Trevor Were (@saute_with_trevor) from Nairobi, Kenya, a self-taught chef, shares accessible home kitchen transformations. Both will attend TikTok and Food Network’s “Hot List x Discover List: The Future of Flavour” event in New York, celebrating food trends.

Cherie Kihato (@cheriekihato) from Nairobi, Kenya, founded Savannah Space, promoting African design globally via TikTok. Tamia Nontsikelelo (@tolthema) from Johannesburg, South Africa, grew her modest fashion brand Tol’thema through storytelling, creating jobs and communities. They highlight TikTok’s role in amplifying African brands and entrepreneurial journeys.
The debut of Sub-Saharan Africa on the 2025 Discover List has led to features in TIME Magazine and events like Cannes Lions. Even creators like Ghana’s Chef Abby have networked with TikTok’s CEO, underscoring the platform’s power for African talent. James Stafford, TikTok’s global head of content operations, praised the list for fostering authenticity and discovery.
