MTN Receives Clearance To Suspend Calls From Glo Over Piling Debt

MTN, Africa’s largest mobile network operator, has received clearance from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to suspend calls from the Glo mobile network over piling interconnect charges.
NCC revealed this on Monday, January 8, in a public notice signed by Reuben Muoka, its Director of Public Affairs Department.
The commission, through the notice, said it has granted partial consent for Globacom to be suspended from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc.
The notice partially reads, “Globacom was notified of the application made by MTN and was allowed to comment and state its case.
“The commission, having examined the application and circumstances surrounding the indebtedness, determined that Globacom does not have sufficient or justifiable reason for non-payment of the interconnect charges.”
The NCC said that after ten days had passed from the date of this notice, “subscribers of Globacom will no longer be able to make calls to MTN but will be able to receive calls.”
It added: “The partial disconnection, however, will allow in-bound calls to the Globacom network.”
