WhatsApp has recently added an “events” section in the app that lets users create, manage, and keep track of all their events from a single screen, instead of digging through individual chats.
The feature, spotted in a beta version of the app for Android (version 2.26.36.5) rolling out through Google Play, adds an “Events” entry to the app’s settings menu, marked with a badge so users notice it. Once opened, the hub lists every event a user has created or been invited to, removing the need to scroll through chat lists to find upcoming plans.
To set up an event from the hub, users tap “Create event” and fill in a name, an optional description, start and end times, and a location. They can also attach a WhatsApp call link, add a cover photo, and decide whether guests are allowed to bring extra people along. A reminder is automatically set for one hour before the event, though users can adjust it, and the host’s name is pulled in from their account by default.
One notable detail in this new feature is that invitees do not need a WhatsApp account to respond. The app generates a shareable link that anyone can open. Non-users who want to confirm attendance simply enter their name and verify a phone number. Before confirming, guests can only see the event’s name, date, and time; the full location and call link only unlock after they accept the invite.
On privacy, the host can see each guest’s name, response, and phone number to manage the list, while confirmed guests can see other attendees’ names and responses, but not phone numbers unless they already have that contact saved. Personal chats and calls remain end-to-end encrypted regardless of event activity.
This upgrade is follows an earlier update that brought event creation to one-on-one chats, a feature that was previously limited to group chats and communities. That version required users to return to the specific conversation to check event details, a limitation the new hub is designed to fix.
According to a report tracking WhatsApp’s beta releases, the events hub is currently limited to a small number of Android beta testers and will expand gradually over the coming weeks. WhatsApp has not given a timeline for a full public rollout.
