IABC 6th Business Leaders’ Forum: Experts Advocate Impactful CSR, Internal Communication

Business leaders at the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) 6th business leaders’ forum have stressed the need for more impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and effective internal communication by organisations.

In the highly interactive thought leadership session, Dr. Kudo Eresia-Eke, General Manager, External Relations, NLNG, who spoke on ‘social license and the business case for CSR’ using NLNG as case study, gave out twelve nuggets of wisdom on CSR which boils down to making it an effective practice.

In her own presentation, Viola Graham-Douglas, Communications Director, Lafarge Africa Plc, who spoke on ‘internal communication and change management: the Lafarge Africa perspective’, explained how organisation can build effective internal communication especially in the time of change, necessitated by mergers.

In an assessment of the impact of the forum, President of IABC Nigeria, Mr. Chido Nwakanma said: “first thing is that we are leading thought in business communication and we are happy about the quality of presentations that have come out of each of the fora. The 6th business leaders’ forum continues and extends a tradition of providing food for the mind and leading thought on critical issues germane to communication and business leadership in Nigeria.

“We are complementing best practices in Nigeria across sectors. For us as an organisation, it has helped in creating awareness about what we do and the practices in business communication. It is also helping in mobilising membership. ‎ At IABC We help people develop skills in order to grow and contribute optimal wherever they work. We look for where we can intervene; where we can make an impact, and we found that, in leadership talk forum.

Daniel Munslow, Director, VMA Group, who was expected to be among the speakers, could not make it to the forum because of visa issues. However, Mr. Nwakanma assured that Mr. Daniel will be around in the seventh forum billed to hold in the latter part of this year.

IABC Nigeria is the Nigerian affiliate of the global professional association devoted to the enhancement of professionalism in business communication.
