There are indications that the much awaited reconstitution of the new council for the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) may not come into reality anytime soon.

Disclosing this in Lagos, following a release by Brands Journalists Association of Nigeria (BJAN) urging the Federal Government to expedite action on the reconstitution of APCON Council, Alhaji Garba Kankarofi, APCON registrar, said that it is only President Muhammadu Buhari who has the prerogative of reconstituting the Council.

According to him, the power to reconstitute APCON council is beyond Alhaji Lai Muhammed, Minister of Information and Culture and APCON Registrar, adding that they had done their utmost to make the Presidency realise the urgency of having the Council in place.

“The formation of APCON Council is beyond me, it is beyond the Federal Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, right now the decision is left in the hands of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari because we have written and we have made our case known to him,” Kankarofi.

The APCON Registrar said that the inability of the President to reconstitute APCON Council may be due to more pressing national issues that need his swift attention.

However, he said that the recent signing of APCON law by the President is a sign of good things for the body.
His words:

”There are many other national issues that are very apt and more agile than my council. Anytime it suits the President to release the council, he will but I am very glad that he has signed our law and that is a sign of good things to come”
