NCC, Nestle, Others Commemorate World Consumer Rights Day

Today is World Consumer Rights Day. To commemorate this special day, reputable organisations including the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Beverage giant, Nestle Nigeria, and other brands are hosting different events to mark the day.
World Consumer Rights Day is a global event celebrated every March 15, to raise awareness regarding the rights of consumers. It is also a day to create awareness of injustice and various market cases of abuse across the world.
NCC will mark the day in Abuja with a spotlight on its regulatory initiatives on clean energy usage in the telecoms sector following the theme of the 2023 edition of the Day; “Empowering Consumers through Clean Energy Transitions.”
Speaking on the theme, the NCC’s Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, Barr. Adeleke Adewolu said the theme provides an opportunity for NCC to share with beloved telecom consumers and other stakeholders, as well as the public, the policies it has instituted, and other actions are taken to encourage operators in the sector to transition to environmentally friendly and renewable energy sources in their operations.
Adewolu, who represented the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, at the inauguration of the committee to organisation the event, said the Commission is committed to reducing the impact that telecommunications operation has on climate change and the environment while noting that the peculiarities of Nigeria’s electricity supply have resulted in the telecommunications sector being a contributor to carbon emissions.
Nestle Nigeria will also be hosting selected journalists and members of the Brand Journalists Association of Nigeria (BJAN) at its Agbara plant, Ogun State with the theme: “The Green Economy: Building a Cleaner Safer World for Consumers”.
The theme was adapted from the 2023 WCRD global theme, “Empowering Consumers through Clean Energy Transitions,” to suit Nigerian society.
The idea is to empower the body of writers that cover sustainability and the Integrated Marketing Communications Industry (IMC) on the topic related to clean energy transition and sustainable development goals with regard to the environment.
According to BJAN Chairman, Clara Chinwe Okoro, this year’s event will focus on the need to keep the environment safe.
“In keeping the environment safe, Brand writers will have the opportunity to hear from a global brand that has been in the business of sustainability for a long time.”
Clara said, Nestle Nigeria has consistently over the past years demonstrated commitment in the area of sustainable growth and development for the environment, agriculture, and clean energy value chain management. This year’s partnership with journalists to celebrate the WCRD is the first of its kind by the company.
