WhatsApp Unveils Feature That Allows Users Create Unnamed Groups

Popular instant messaging platform, WhatsApp, has revealed a feature that allows users to establish groups on the platform without assigning them names.

The feature will help users create a group, even if they have not decided on a topic yet or need to create one quickly.

The Chief Executive Officer of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, made this known on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

He posted, “Making it simpler to start WhatsApp groups by naming them based on who’s in the chat when you don’t feel like coming up with another name.”

However, unlike the conventional WhatsApp groups capable of accommodating up to 1,024 participants, this new feature restricts unnamed groups to a maximum of six participants, as confirmed by the messaging app.

These groups will be dynamically named based on the users added to a group, the company said.

According to the app, the group name will appear differently for each participant, depending on how they have saved contacts on their phone. If you join an unnamed group with people who haven’t saved their contacts, your phone number will be visible in the group name.

This indicates the feature is likely aimed more at friends and family who are already familiar with one another.
