Covenant University Wins Creative Pitch Contest At ARCON’s Advertising Industry Colloquium 2.0

Convent University emerged the overall winner of the creative pitch competition held at the Advertising Industry Colloquium 2.0 organised by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON).
The event themed Harnessing Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Advertising Education and Practice in Nigeria” took place on the 27th, of June 2024 at the Sheba Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.
The competition had schools drawn from the six geo-political zones in Nigeria with 6 tertiary institutions competing at the final stage. The pitch was judged by creative experts with top- notch experience. They are Yetunde Adeshina, MD/CEO, Prima Garnet Africa; Emmanuel Agu, Faculty Lecturer, Rome Business School; Omo Kingsley Abunene, MD/CEO, Beam Media Limited; Brenda Nwagwu,CEO, QVT Media Limited; and Owolabi Mustapha, MD, Maxxconnection Limited.
Each school was given 15 minutes to deliver their presentations. They created a campaign plan that can run on various media channels for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) which emphasizes the dangers of taking hard drugs. They were to come up with solutions on how they can educate their target audience on the menace of hard drugs.
Speaking on the factors that will guide the judges, the head of Jury, Yetunde Adeshina, MD/CEO, Prima Garnet Africa said “We will be looking at how concise and logical your presentations are. The originality and creativity in terms of the ideas will also be considered.
“Time management will also be a factor because it is the key in the practice of advertising. We would also be looking at the theme composition and how it aligns with the presentation.”
The competition according to the organisers is not about the money to be won but the fact that the various schools can nail their brief and convince the panel and everyone seated here.
Commenting on the presentation, Brig. Gen Muhammed Buba Marwa, Chairman/CEO, NDLEA who was represented by Dr. Segun Oke, NDLEA Zonal Commander in Lagos said “After listening to the presentations from the various schools. But I am sure the judges will look into the advertisement part because that is supposed to be the main content.”
At the end of the competition, Covenant University won a million naira as the overall winner with 440 points, the University of Ilorin clinched the first runner-up position and went home with N750,000 naira while Lagos State University clinched the second runner-up with 385 points and went home with N500,000 naira.
Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State emerged in the fourth position, Rivers State University was fifth position Ebonyi State University was the sixth position and they went home with N250,000 naira each.
Earlier in his welcome address, the DG of ARCON, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo said the AIC will remain a unique platform that will alwaus give opportunities to tertiary institutions to participate in activities, events and competitions that will give them firsthand industry experiences.
