Zap Africa Taps Oke Umurhohwo To Lead It’s Global Marketing Drive As Head of Marketing
Seasoned marketing expert and one of Brandcom Awards 2023 Top 35 under 35 marketing and communications professionals, Oke Umurhohwo has been appointed Head of Marketing for Zap Africa, a trailblazing cryptocurrency company specializing in decentralized finance (DeFi) solutions.
In his new role, Oke Umurhohwo will lead Zap Africa expansion into Europe, the UK, and the US, as the company reposition into a global player, redefining the brand’s identity, and amplifying its mission of advancing financial inclusion and digital asset accessibility across Africa and beyond.
Under his guidance, Zap Africa will not only strengthen its presence across Africa but also shape its reputation as a world-class DeFi brand with global appeal.
Prior to his appointment, Oke was Marketing Manager, West Africa at itel where he managed ATL and BTL teams across West Africa executing global marketing strategy for local market through various channels to create brand awareness and direct sales transactions.
With nearly a decade of experience driving brand growth as the Marketing Manager for itel across West Africa, Umurhohwo brings a proven track record of transforming brands and delivering innovative marketing strategies. His leadership played a pivotal role in establishing itel as a household name across the region.
He has more than ten years of experience in marketing, communications, digital marketing, and project management.
With core competencies that include developing strategic marketing plans, managing vendor and partner relationships, creating GTM for new products, and exploring strategic partnerships across the region, Oke is passionate about building brand awareness and preference among consumers, driving growth in sales, and empowering teams to deliver results.
He started his career journey at Jubilee Mortgage Bank, moving on to BIF Media as Research Editor. He also served at Wecyclers Corporation as Media Specialist before moving to the Federal Ministry of Environment as Environmental Scientist. Prior to joining itel, he was a project manager with The Ignite Ideas Contest, an initiative spearheaded by AGDC, with implementing support from Generation Enterprise, with sponsorship from The Chair Center and the Lagos state government.
Oke Umurhohwo holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Sciences as well as a Master’s degree in Environmental Management, and Master of Business Administration in Marketing from University of Lagos.
