Versatile marketing communications professionals  and one of Brandcom Awards Top 35 Under 35, Oke Umurhohwo has assumed a new position, following his appointment by pay TV giants, StarTimes, as its new Marketing Director.

Oke whose career journey has been variously described as nothing short of remarkable boasts over a decade of impactful work across technology, consumer electronics, and fintech.

He began his career with mobile phone brand, itel, where he rose through the ranks and played a huge role in building the brand from relative obscurity into a household name across Africa. His efforts saw the brand achieve massive growth in market share, digital presence, and consumer engagement, with initiatives such as “Love Always On” CSR, campus programmes, and celebrity partnerships that resonated with millions.

From itel, Oke transitioned to fintech as Global Marketing Manager at Zap Africa, where he successfully led the company’s recent rebrand, introducing a new identity, enhanced user experience, and innovative engagement strategies that strengthened Zap’s position in the evolving African crypto market.

Now at StarTimes, Oke is tasked with overseeing the company’s marketing transformation at a time when the pay-TV space is increasingly competitive. His mandate will involve re-energizing brand perception, strengthening digital presence, modernizing creative output, and driving subscriber growth through sharper campaign execution.
