MultiChoice Moves Showmax Content To DStv Stream Starting April 1

MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company, has announced a major transition that will see the iconic titles that defined Showmax migrate to DStv Stream from April 1, 2026. As part of the move, a dedicated Showmax section will be introduced on the platform, offering audiences a curated selection of the service’s most celebrated originals alongside fan-favourite content.
According to the company, these videos will be available alongside DStv Stream’s live channel offering, and accessible to subscribers on the DStv Compact, Compact Plus, and Premium packages. Existing Showmax subscribers will also be seamlessly migrated to DStv Stream on the Compact package, allowing them to continue streaming at no additional cost until May 31, 2026.
The transition comes ahead of the planned closure of the current Showmax service on April 30, 2026. MultiChoice notes that the move is designed to ensure that the award-winning African series that helped establish Showmax as one of the continent’s most influential streaming platforms remains widely accessible within the broader DStv Stream ecosystem.
Speaking on the development, Kemi Omotosho, Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, said the shift underscores the platform’s long-term vision for streaming.
“This move reflects DStv’s long-term commitment to streaming, bringing together on-demand entertainment and live television in a single platform designed around how audiences want to watch today,” she said.
She further emphasised the brand’s continued investment in African storytelling:
“Showmax helped unlock a wave of world-class African storytelling. Series like WURA, Flawsome, Cheta M and The Real Housewives of Lagos, along with productions from across the continent, were created through collaboration between MultiChoice’s content teams and local producers. That commitment to African storytelling does not change.”
MultiChoice also highlighted that the success of Showmax Originals has been driven by strong collaborations with producers, writers and creative talent across Africa. Projects such as Spinners—a co-production between MultiChoice and CANAL+ that aired across Africa and in France—illustrate how African stories are increasingly resonating with global audiences. These titles will now find a home on DStv Stream, alongside an expanded catalogue of African and international content, live channels and sports.
According to the company, the Showmax section on DStv Stream will feature standout titles including WURA, Flawsome, Cheta M, Princess on a Hill and Under the Influence, as well as popular series from across the continent such as The Wife (South Africa) and Single Kiasi (Kenya).
This offering complements the broader DStv Stream experience, which includes tens of thousands of hours of on-demand movies and series, alongside more than 100 live channels available 24/7 across eligible subscription packages.
MultiChoice says the integration delivers “the best of both worlds” for customers, combining local originals with premium international channels, kids’ programming and world-class sports, reinforcing DStv’s position as one of Africa’s most comprehensive entertainment platforms.
The company further revealed that sport remains a central part of the offering. Through SuperSport, subscribers will continue to enjoy top-tier competitions such as the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, LaLiga and Serie A, as well as additional sports coverage on channels like ESPN. Unlike Showmax Premier League, which was limited to mobile devices, DStv Stream will be accessible across smart TVs and mobile platforms.
To access the service, customers can download the DStv Stream app or visit the DStv website, log in or sign up, and navigate to the Showmax section. Showmax Originals will be available to subscribers on DStv Compact, Compact Plus and Premium packages.
Beyond content, DStv Stream offers a suite of familiar streaming features, including the ability to watch live and on-demand content in one place, pause and rewind live TV, “Watch from Start,” offline downloads and personalised recommendations delivering a seamless and flexible viewing experience for modern audiences.
