MTN Pan‑African Media Innovation Programme Opens For 2026 Entries

MTN Group has opened applications for the 2026 cohort of its Pan‑African Media Innovation Programme (MIP), a continent‑wide initiative aimed at strengthening African journalism and media innovation.
The call targets mid‑to‑senior journalists, editors and media practitioners from MTN’s operating markets who are keen to deepen their skills in digital transformation, media ethics, and innovation.
The programme is a 12‑week certified learning journey delivered over six months, combining online academic modules with an in‑person immersion phase hosted in Johannesburg through the University of Johannesburg (UJ).
The curriculum is designed to tackle core challenges in contemporary journalism, including media sustainability, digital transformation, innovation in newsroom practice, and the impact of platforms and emerging technologies on the information ecosystem.
The 2026 edition builds on a successful national pilot in Nigeria, which has been expanded into a pan‑African platform in partnership with the University of Johannesburg and the African Editors Forum (TAEF).
The programme’s launch last year in Johannesburg signalled MTN’s intent to nurture a network of forward‑thinking media leaders who can drive innovation and ethical storytelling across the continent.
Applications for the 2026 cohort are open to mid to senior level journalists, editors and media practitioners from MTN markets, with a closing date of 30 April 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be selected independently by UJ and TAEF based on professional merit, potential impact, and commitment to the evolution of African media.
