Airtel Nigeria Renews 10 Year Spectrum Licence To Expand Broadband Coverage
Airtel Nigeria has secured a fresh 10 year renewal of its spectrum licence from the Nigerian Communications Commission, giving the telecommunications company the approval to continue using key radio frequencies needed to deliver voice and internet services across the country.
Spectrum refers to the radio frequencies mobile network operators use to provide phone calls, text messages and internet services. Without these licences, telecom companies cannot operate their mobile networks
Reacting to the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria, Dinesh Balsingh, said the renewal reflects the company’s confidence in Nigeria’s digital future.
He said, “This renewal reinforces our long term commitment to Nigeria’s digital future. It provides the certainty we need to continue investing in our network, expanding broadband access and delivering reliable, high quality services that empower individuals, businesses and communities across the country.”
Balsingh added that Airtel would continue working with the Nigerian Communications Commission and other stakeholders to support the country’s digital economy and improve connectivity for more Nigerians.
The renewed licence strengthens Airtel’s long term plans to improve broadband access, increase network coverage and deliver better service to millions of customers, especially in areas with limited internet connectivity.
The renewal also gives Airtel greater confidence to continue investing in network infrastructure as demand for fast and reliable internet services continues to grow across Nigeria.
