The Association of Corporate Communication and Marketing Professionals in Banks (ACAMB) has called for credible and responsible communication as artificial intelligence, digital media and faster information flow continue to reshape how Nigeria’s banking industry tells its stories.

ACAMB president Babajide Sipe made the call on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at a press conference at Bankers House, Lagos, to mark the association’s 30th anniversary, themed “30 Years of Shaping Narratives and Building Trust.”

Sipe said the changing communication landscape was creating new opportunities and challenges for communication professionals, requiring them to stay relevant, innovative and responsive while upholding professionalism, integrity, credibility and trust. “As communication professionals, we recognise that trust remains one of the most valuable assets any organisation can possess,” he said.

He said communication goes beyond passing on information, noting that it also involves shaping understanding, influencing perceptions responsibly, strengthening relationships and building confidence among stakeholders.

Sipe said ACAMB’s three-decade journey, since the association’s founding in September 1996, has been built around promoting credible communication, responsible storytelling and stakeholder engagement. He listed the group’s milestones as including the advancement of professional standards, capacity-building programmes, conferences and knowledge-sharing sessions, alongside advocacy work, reputation management support for banks, and mentorship for younger professionals.

He revealed ACAMB has had ten successive presidents since its founding, and that the association has focused on member wellness, environmental sustainability and community development, alongside partnerships with regulators, media organisations and other institutions.

Looking ahead, Sipe said the association would focus on strengthening its professional community, deepening stakeholder engagement, embracing innovation and creating more value for its members, the banking sector and the wider society.

He described the 30th anniversary as a marker not just of longevity but of impact, resilience and trust. Anniversary activities held earlier in the year included a tree-planting exercise and a golf and networking outing, with a gala and awards night scheduled to close out the celebrations on Wednesday, September 30, at the Civic Centre, Lagos. Sipe said several banks, including FirstBank, Providus Bank, Quest Merchant Bank, Union Bank, GTBank and Zenith Bank, are sponsoring the closing event.
