Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX), parent company of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, has been named Africa’s Best Exchange at the Euromoney Markets Awards 2026. The announcement and prize which was given out recently in London, rewards how the exchange performed in 2025, NGX Group said. It credited the win to its work on market systems, digital tools and helping businesses raise money.

Euromoney’s own write-up of the winner points to a strong financial year 2025 which witnessed the main share price index rise by 51.19 per cent, and the value of shares traded more than double to N5.96 trillion. It also noted that foreign investors’ participation in the market rose to 20.77 per cent by November 2025, from 15.25 per cent.

NGX Group said the momentum has carried into this year. As of October 16, the index was up 59.07 per cent since January. Shares worth N7.82 trillion had been traded, about 74 per cent more than the N4.50 trillion recorded in the same period of 2025. The total value of all listed companies stood at N160.73 trillion.

NGX Invest, the exchange’s online platform for buying into new share offers, helped raise more than N2.8 trillion during the recent drive by banks to raise fresh capital, the group said. By September 2026, investors could reach it through more than 180 channels, including stockbrokers, banks, financial technology firms and a WhatsApp option.

Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Temi Popoola said the award reflects the exchange’s commitment to building the systems and technology that help businesses raise money. He thanked regulators, policymakers, companies that raise money on the exchange, investors and stockbrokers for their support. He added that wider digital access and closer ties with other African markets would make the market easier to use, stronger and more competitive.

The group also pointed to Nigeria’s switch in June 2026 to T+1 settlement, under which trades are completed one working day after they are made. It did not leave out its NGX Net-Zero Programme, which helps Nigerian companies prepare for climate change and set targets to cut emissions. The programme has engaged more than 50 companies, 19 of which have joined as community members.
