Leading water manufacturer, CWAY Drinking Water Science & Tech. Co. Ltd, has reinforced its commitment to delivering safe and accessible water to Nigerians, as it marked World Water Day 2026 with a strong consumer-focused message anchored on its theme “Where water flows, equality grows.”

At the commemoration held at its Lagos head office, the company emphasised that access to clean water must remain consistent, inclusive, and sustainable, stressing that water is not just a daily necessity but a vital resource that must be protected, shared, and sustained.

The event brought together industry stakeholders, academics, and students, serving as a platform for CWAY to reaffirm its role in providing safe drinking water while driving economic growth and social impact across communities in Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, Deputy General Manager for Sales Operations at CWAY, Charles Ojo, highlighted the company’s footprint beyond hydration. His words: “Water is life, but beyond providing safe drinking water, CWAY has contributed to employment both direct and indirect through our distribution network, logistics partnerships, and refill systems that reach households daily.”

According to him, the company’s expanding operations have created opportunities across its value chain, from production lines to last-mile delivery, ensuring that clean water gets to consumers while supporting livelihoods.

He also pointed to CWAY’s investments in production systems and refill infrastructure as practical steps toward reducing water waste and improving access. “We have structured our production processes and expanded refill options so more homes can access clean water conveniently and sustainably,” Ojo added.

In his remarks, the Group Marketing Head, Samuel Akinrimisi, reinforced the company’s consumer-focused message, stressing that water touches every aspect of daily living. “There is hardly anything you can do without water,” he said. “From the moment you wake up to when you go to bed, water is essential. That is why, for us, ensuring access to safe, drinkable water is not just a business, it is a responsibility.”

Akinrimisi also addressed the theme of the year, Water and Gender, emphasising that access to water should not be seen as the burden of any one group. “Water has no regard for gender,” he noted. “It is the responsibility of everyone, male and female, to ensure it is available, used properly, and not wasted.”

He added that CWAY’s wide product range, from 500ml bottles to 18.9L refill systems, was designed to meet the needs of different households, ensuring that safe water remains accessible across communities.

The event also featured a keynote by Associate Professor of Marine Science at the University of Lagos, Prof. Roland Uwadiya, on the topic  “Water, Women and the Unjust Status Quo: The Role of Humans in the Global Water Crisis.”  He warned of looming water security challenges if the government and organisations fail to act.

He commended CWAY for consistently raising awareness and expanding access. “When companies like CWAY continue to lead in this space, others are encouraged to follow. This is how we build water security as a nation,” he said.

As part of the celebration, CWAY spotlighted youth engagement through a secondary school essay competition on the theme “Water and Gender.” The initiative attracted entries from students across Lagos and Ogun States, with six finalists selected to present their ideas.

Fadare Oluwaseunfunmi of FAS Comprehensive College, Ogun State, emerged as the winner, taking home a cash prize of ₦300,000, a CWAY water dispenser, and 25 packs of bottled water, followed by Emeka Vanessa of Victory of Mighty Pillars School, winning ₦200,000 and 25 packs of CWAY bottled water and Oluremi Temidayo Mercy of Coriander Secondary School, who won ₦100,000 and 20 packs of bottled water.

The remaining finalists, Richard Oghagaoghene Eterigbo, Melody Iboma, and Oniga Ayomikun, placed fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. Each received ₦50,000 alongside 15, 10 and 10 packs of CWAY bottled water respectively as consolation prizes.

The competition, which rewarded critical thinking and creativity, further underscored CWAY’s investment in youth development and advocacy around water sustainability.

While the Lagos event is the flagship commemoration, CWAY Water’s World Water Day 2026 footprint extended to both Enugu and Abuja. In Enugu, CWAY Water took the World Water Day commemoration directly to the commercial heartbeat of the South-East at the Ogbete Market. CWAY Water team moved through the market distributing free cold bottles of CWAY Water to traders, shoppers, food vendors, and market workers who had been on their feet since before sunrise.

In the Federal Capital Territory, CWAY Water opted for a  large-scale awareness walk that took to the streets of Abuja, carrying the World Water Day message to residents across multiple neighbourhoods of the capital city.

With a blend of advocacy, innovation, and community engagement, CWAY continues to position itself not just as a water provider but as a key player in shaping conversations around access, responsibility, and sustainability. The company noted that it has consistently commemorated World Water Day over the years through various initiatives aimed at promoting awareness, encouraging responsible water use, and supporting communities across Nigeria.
