IHS Nigeria has partnered with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments to renovate the National Museum in Lagos.

This project commissioned by Minister Hannatu Musawa to restore key facilities, protect Nigeria’s cultural heritage, and advance the country’s first digital museum of antiquities.

Commenting on the renovation, Mohamad Darwish, CEO of IHS Nigeria, said the company was moved to do more after seeing the incredible historical and cultural items housed in the museum. He explained that following their support for the digital museum, they decided to also enhance the physical structure by improving its appearance, security, and overall condition. According to him, this fits perfectly with the company’s wider goals of building sustainable infrastructure and protecting Nigeria’s history. He expressed pride in the completed work, noting that tourists, researchers, and art lovers can now enjoy Nigeria’s rich heritage in a safe, attractive, and welcoming space where the artifacts are better preserved, protected, and displayed to truly honor the stories they tell. He also thanked the National Commission for Museums and Monuments for their continued partnership, which he believes shows the strength of working together to drive innovation, build national pride, and grow the creative economy.

In his remarks, Olugbile Holloway, Director General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, expressed heartfelt thanks to IHS Nigeria for their generous help in restoring the National Museum Lagos. He described the support as going well beyond simple construction, calling it a deep commitment to protecting the very soul of the nation. Holloway highlighted that the museum holds some of Nigeria’s most precious antiquities, including the ancient Nok terracotta figures, the famous Benin bronzes, and the classic artworks from Ife. He stressed that restoring the institution means restoring Nigeria’s collective memory, and praised IHS Nigeria for renewing not just the buildings but the country’s heritage, identity, and hope for its people. He added that this support will ensure that future generations of Nigerians can walk through the halls and fully appreciate the greatness of their origins.

The renovation has given the entire museum complex a fresh look while carrying out extensive work on the main gallery. The upgraded space now has modern display units, improved lighting, new air-conditioning, a solar-powered inverter system for better energy efficiency, and security cameras to strengthen safety and operations throughout the facility.

This latest effort builds on IHS Nigeria’s previous support for digitizing Nigeria’s cultural treasures, forming part of a broader push to safeguard and showcase the nation’s rich history for future generations.
