The President and Chairman of Council of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN), Dr. Bolajoko Bayo-Ajayi, has reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to strengthening professionalism, ethical standards and regulatory compliance within Nigeria’s marketing industry.

Dr. Bolajoko said this during the 2026 Annual Marketing Conference (AMC) and Annual General Meeting (AGM) of NIMN, held in Port Harcourt under the theme, “Community, Culture and Connection: Reimagining the New Market.”

Addressing marketing professionals and industry stakeholders at the event, she disclosed that the Institute would intensify enforcement of its statutory mandate requiring all marketing practitioners operating in Nigeria to register with NIMN. She added that the Institute would continue its advocacy and stakeholder engagement efforts aimed at raising professional standards across the industry.

According to her, the initiative is designed to strengthen professionalism, promote ethical practice and enhance the credibility of marketing as a profession in Nigeria.

“We remain committed to ensuring that marketing practice in Nigeria is guided by the highest standards of professionalism, ethical conduct and regulatory compliance. Through stronger enforcement and sustained stakeholder engagement, we aim to elevate the profession and reinforce public confidence in the marketing industry,” she said.

In her goodwill message, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Institutions Training Centre (FITC), Dr. Chizor Malize, challenged marketers to harness the growing influence of culture, community and human connection to drive sustainable business growth.

She noted that digital transformation has fundamentally altered consumer expectations and urged brands to move beyond transactional relationships by building communities that inspire loyalty, advocacy and long-term engagement.

According to Malize, organisations that successfully integrate culture, community and connection into their business and marketing strategies will be better positioned to thrive in an increasingly competitive and technology-driven environment.

The conference featured insightful discussions on the evolving dynamics of modern marketing, with participants examining how brands can remain relevant by creating authentic connections with consumers and communities.

As deliberations concluded, participants agreed that the future of marketing lies in understanding cultural contexts, building genuine relationships and creating meaningful experiences that foster trust, belonging and advocacy.

The conference reinforced the growing recognition that community, culture and connection have emerged as the new currencies of influence, relevance and sustainable growth in today’s marketplace.

Stakeholders also underscored the importance of embracing innovation while maintaining human-centred approaches that enable brands to connect more effectively with consumers in an increasingly digital world.

The Nigerian Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) is the statutory regulatory body for the marketing profession in Nigeria. The Institute is responsible for regulating, controlling and determining the standards of knowledge, skills and practice required of marketing professionals while promoting ethical conduct, professional excellence and industry development.
