Golden Penny, Union Bank and Aquafina have thrown their weights behind the fifth edition of Cycling Lagos, an annual cycling event set for Saturday, September 12, at the National Stadium, Surulere.
Under the partnership, Aquafina, the bottled water produced by Seven Up Bottling Company (SBC), is detailed to supply drinking water to cyclists and other participants at key points along the race route, including the Coastal Road, as well as at the start and finish lines. Aquafina is also putting up money to help fund the event.
Omokehinde Thomas, SBC’s Marketing Manager for Energy and Hydration, said the hydration stations would run throughout the race, from the starting point to the finish.
Other companies also sponsoring the event include Adron Homes, Checkers Custard, and AIICO Multishield.
Cycling Africa Limited, which organises the event alongside the Lagos State Cycling Association, said the growing list of corporate sponsors shows that businesses increasingly see cycling as a way to promote healthy living, cleaner transport, and brand visibility all at once.
Bamidele Adeleye, President and CEO of Cycling Africa Limited, recalled that SBC has supported the initiative since it began in 2018 and said he was glad to have the company on board again for the fifth edition. He thanked Adron Homes, Golden Penny Foods, and the other sponsors for standing by the event as it has grown over the years.
Adeleye also pointed to a recycling-focused webinar held on September 3 as part of this year’s build-up, where experts discussed ways to boost waste management and recycling in Lagos and across Nigeria.
This year’s event carries the theme “Trash to Treasure: Unlocking Recycling Capacity for a Sustainable Future,” a nod to the organisers’ push to get more Nigerians thinking of waste as a resource rather than a problem.
Saturday’s cycling will include a Children’s Race, a Celebrity Race, and the main competitive cycling event, with riders covering designated routes across Lagos before returning to the National Stadium. Organisers expect cyclists, clubs, and families from Lagos and other parts of Nigeria to take part.
