O’tega Ogra Takes On Presidential Position As SSA On Digital, New Media
Foremost marketing and communications professional, O’tega Ogra has been appointed Senior Special Assistant on Digital/New Media to the President, by the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. O’tega joins a group of 20 new aides selected by the President, just three weeks after the last major round of appointments.
Recognized as one of West Africa’s foremost strategic communications and marketing executives, O’tega Ogra is the Group Head and Director of Corporate Communications at BUA Group.
O’tega’s professional journey began as a Field Officer for HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health with the German Agency for International Development (GIZ) through the Federal Government of Nigeria Multisectoral Women Empowerment Programme in North East Nigeria.
O’tega then ventured into the banking industry, starting at GTBank in 2008 and later transitioning to Wema Bank. At just 24 years old, he became the youngest individual to oversee the corporate communications function for a bank in Nigeria.
Throughout his career, which spans international development, financial services, and manufacturing, O’tega has spearheaded several noteworthy initiatives. He played a pivotal role in developing youth-focused products in the financial services sector and led the successful rebranding of Wema Bank in 2015.
Additionally, O’tega has been instrumental in enhancing the corporate brand of BUA Group, managing the company’s highly acclaimed COVID-19 interventions, and establishing the Annual $100 million ASR Africa Initiative in 2021, which is Africa’s largest personal philanthropy, initiated by BUA’s Founder, Abdul Samad Rabiu.
Due to his outstanding performance, O’tega has received numerous accolades, including the “Outstanding Corporate Communication Person of the Year award 2021” at the Marketing Edge Annual Brands and Advertising Awards of Excellence. He was also honoured with the “Corporate Spokesperson of The Year (2021)” at The Industry Awards and recognized as the “Corporate Communications Professional of the Year (Manufacturing)” at the 2021 Brandcom Awards.
Moreover, His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife, acknowledged his contributions to the continent through the Royal African Young Leadership Forum (RAYLF). In 2022, he was further recognized among the 100 UN Most Influential Persons of African Descent (MIPAD), Under 40 and featured in the PR Power List Nigeria (2022) and was named among the Brandcom Awards 35 under 35 Marketing and Communications professionals in Nigeria in 2022.
He further holds a crucial position at BUA Group, serves as an executive in the leadership of the Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN), and oversees multiple departments that would typically require the efforts of multiple individuals in other organizations.
