MultiChoice Celebrates One Decade Of Creative Excellence, Honours Outstanding African Entertainers At 2024 AMVCA

Multichoice, a leading provider of entertainment content, has celebrated a decade of creative excellence in African film and television at the just concluded 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The two-day event, which was held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos State, featured a series of events, like Young Filmmakers Day, Cultural Day Celebration, and the Awards Night which was the high point of the celebration.

The event, a benchmark for excellence in African storytelling brought together the film and television industry to honour outstanding talent and creativity in the industry.

The 2024 AMVCA, specifically recognised exceptional achievements in various categories, including Best Movie, Best Lead Actor, Best Lead Actress, Best Director, and Best Indigenous Language Film, among others.

Commenting on the tenth edition of AMVCA and the growth in the quality of African film and TV, Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa at MultiChoice, said, “The Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards was created to honour exceptional achievements in television and film across the continent and we are excited to have been able to keep that fire burning through 10 editions. Year after year, we have received numerous entries and can attest to the growth in the quality of submissions with each edition.

“While this year’s edition is a milestone edition as it is the 10th, it is also a testament to the growth the film industry in Africa has experienced. We congratulate all the winners and nominees who have put in the incredible work. We’d also like to say a big thank you to everyone in the African film industry. You have all made us proud”.

This year’s edition had 28 categories, with 17 non-voting and 9 audience voting categories, and the winners were selected by a jury led by ace filmmaker and head judge, Femi Odugbemi.

Some of the highlights from the awards included Breath of Life and its five wins of the night including Best Movie, Wale Ojo as Best Lead Actor for his role in the movie, Demola Adedoyin and Genoveva Umeh as Best Supporting Actor and Actress, and BB Sasore as Best Director. Kehinde Bankole bagged Best Lead Actress, making it the second time she has won this award following her win in 2015 for her role on October 1.

Viewers also experienced a nostalgic performance from Awilo Longomba.
Industry veterans Iya Rainbow and Richard Mofe Damijo were honoured with the Industry Merit Award for their contributions to the growth and development of the African film industry. Chimezie Imo received the Trailblazer Award for his innovative work in the industry.

The event was attended by top African film and television personalities, including Joke Silva, Sola Sobowale, Chidi Mokeme, Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Noah, Kunle Afolayan, Mo Abudu, Odunlade Adekola, Kanayo O. Kanayo, and many others.


The event was broadcast live on Africa Magic channels and streamed on the MultiChoice streaming platform, Showmax, allowing audiences across the continent and beyond to join in the celebration of African film and TV excellence.
