Google Introduces Scam Call Alert Feature To Android Phones
Google has announced that it is introducing a scam call alert feature to Android phones globally. The scam alert is powered by the company’s Gemini AI, which uses artificial intelligence to detect and alert users to potential scam calls.
The tech giant company made this and several other AI-related announcements recently during its developer conference.
This feature demonstrated during the event, displays an alert when users receive calls from private numbers. Also, Android shared a brief video of the feature on its official social media handle. According to Android’s post, the feature is currently in development and will utilise Gemini Nano AI to detect fake calls and provide real-time alerts.
When a fraudulent call is detected, users will receive an alert message. They will have the option to disable the alert and continue the call or end it immediately.
Google also revealed in its blog that global fraud amounted to 1 trillion dollars in the past year. The company is testing the Scam Call Alert feature using Gemini Nano AI to enable users to detect scam calls in real-time. For instance, if a call requests immediate fund transfers or payment for a gift card, the alert will appear on the phone screen.
Scammers often attempt to extract sensitive information such as credit card PINs and passwords during calls. Google’s feature aims to alert users during such conversations. While Google has not provided extensive details about this feature, it is expected to be available to Android users by the end of the year.
Earlier, during the keynote presentation, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google new updates were also coming to Google’s Circle Search, he introduced a new Gemini AI-powered feature in Google Photos called “Ask Photos.” This feature aims to make it easier for Google Photos users to search for specific photos, and text, or retrieve information from their gallery without closing an app.
The company said it is expanding the feature to better suit students’ needs. The update enables a person to circle a prompt and get step-by-step instructions to solve math or other problems directly from an Excel sheet or other document.
