The Lagos Public Relations Industry Gala and Awards (LaPRIGA) has evolved from a novel idea into the “Oscar of the Public Relations Industry in Nigeria,” becoming the most prestigious platform for celebrating excellence in the communication profession, according to Dr. Samuel Ayetutu, Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations.

Dr. Ayetutu made this declaration while delivering his welcome address at the 10th edition of LaPRIGA, held at the MUSON Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, marking a historic milestone for what has become one of the largest and most glamorous PR events in Sub-Saharan Africa.

“What began as a novel idea has grown into one of the largest and most glamorous Public Relations events in Sub-Saharan Africa. Today, LaPRIGA is widely regarded as the Oscar of the Public Relations Industry in Nigeria, a platform that inspires, elevates and celebrates the very best in our field,” the NIPR chairman told the distinguished audience of PR professionals, corporate leaders, and communication stakeholders.

Speaking on the theme “Nox Excellentia—Night of Excellence,” He described the 10th anniversary as another chapter in the event’s history and a milestone that speaks to the legacy, vision and commitment of the leaders who built and nurtured this chapter over the years.”

He emphasized that excellence remains the cornerstone of the public relations profession, driving every aspect of practice from creativity to strategic execution. “Excellence is the most enduring value that public relations practitioners embody. It is the standard that drives our creativity, shapes our strategies, and defines our contributions to society. This is why tonight is truly a night of excellence, a night to showcase and celebrate the ingenuity, resilience and innovation that our members bring to the table,” Dr. Ayetutu stated.

The chairman further highlighted that LAPRIGA has become a comprehensive celebration of diverse segments within the PR ecosystem, recognizing outstanding work across agencies, consultancies, in-house professionals, and public sector communicators.

He also revealed that the current executive committee, which he leads, made deliberate efforts to ensure the 10th edition stood out as exceptional. “Great efforts have been invested to make this historic 10th edition truly memorable. From the ambience to the food, entertainment and overall experience, you will notice deliberate touches of class and excellence befitting this milestone celebration,” he explained.

The NIPR Lagos chairman gave special recognition to the Planning Committee, which he said demonstrated exceptional dedication in bringing the event to life. “Permit me to specially acknowledge the exceptional work of the Planning Committee, led by our highly respected colleague, Mrs. Tokunbo George-Taylor. Their sacrifices and dedication have brought this remarkable event to life,” Dr. Ayetutu said.

The chairman congratulated all winners and commended everyone who participated in the awards, emphasizing that the competitive process itself raises professional standards across the industry.

Looking beyond the celebration, Dr. Ayetutu used the occasion to reaffirm the Lagos Chapter’s broader commitment to societal impact through strategic communication. “Let me reaffirm that the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations will continue to provide leadership in shaping narratives that promote social and economic development in Lagos State and across Nigeria,” he added.

Ayetutu emphasized.
