Lagos NIPR Marks World Autism Awareness Day, Unveils CSR Support Initiative

The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) recently marked this year’s World Autism Awareness Day during its April PR Clinic. The move reinforces the need for inclusive communication and the institute’s goal of supporting individuals living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The professional gathering, held on April 2, 2026, served as a platform to highlight the role of public relations in shaping public perceptions and promoting social inclusion.
Speaking at the session, Chairman of the Lagos NIPR Chapter, Dr. Samuel Ayetutu, reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to ethical communication and social impact through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, “Extra Mile Project”, designed to support individuals and communities affected by autism.
Ayetutu noted that public relations practitioners play a critical role in promoting accurate narratives and inclusive storytelling, highlighting the need to challenge stereotypes, misinformation, and harmful portrayals associated with autism across media and organisational communications.
He further called on media professionals and institutions to adopt responsible communication practices that avoid bias, labelling, and exclusion, adding that such efforts are essential to building a more inclusive and understanding society.
As part of its commitment to social impact, the Chapter disclosed plans to present a cheque to Puresouls Learning Foundation, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, in fulfilment of its pledge to allocate a percentage of proceeds from the Lagos Public Relations Industry Gala and Awards (LaPRIGA) 2025 towards autism advocacy.
The Chapter stated that the April PR Clinic, beyond professional engagement, underscores its continued dedication to advancing ethical standards and positioning public relations as a force for social good.
