ACAMB Seeks Wider QR Code Adoption, Better Payment Systems At NIBSS Visit

The Association of Corporate Communication and Marketing Professionals in Banks (ACAMB) has called for wider adoption of QR code payments and stronger digital payment systems in Nigeria after a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) in Lagos. The group said the move would make payments faster, cheaper and more reliable for customers and merchants.

NIBSS Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Premier Oiwoh, said smooth payment systems remain central to financial inclusion and urged banks to embrace the Nigeria Quick Response(NQR) code. NQR is a QR code-based payment option that allows customers to scan a merchant’s code with a banking app to make payments directly. It is designed to support quick, contactless transactions and reduce reliance on cash in everyday business payments.

The NQR will help lower transaction costs and improve convenience for merchants and customers. Banks using the system can receive instant transaction alerts, which helps confirm payments quickly and reduces delays at the point of sale.

ACAMB President, Babajide Sipe, stated that the association wants the banking industry to speak with one voice on issues affecting the sector. “We want to make sure there is a space where banks engage, share ideas, and ask relevant questions about how to grow the industry as well as manage its challenges,” he said. He added that ACAMB has been engaging other industry stakeholders to strengthen banking communication and public trust.

ACAMB said its focus remains reputation management, advocacy and rebuilding confidence in the financial system. The association also noted that it has continued engaging other industry stakeholders, including the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, to strengthen communication across the sector. That broader push is aimed at helping banks respond better to customer concerns and industry disruptions.

The visit comes at a time when Nigerian financial institutions are intensifying efforts to promote digital payment tools and improve customer experience. For ACAMB, the message was clear: the banking industry needs stronger collaboration, better communication and more use of practical digital payment options that make everyday transactions easier for the public.
