CAC To Enforce Company Business Letter Requirements From August 1

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced plans to begin enforcing statutory requirements governing the contents of company business letters from August 1, 2026, warning that companies that fail to comply will face sanctions.

The commission disclosed this in a public notice issued by its management, stating that the enforcement is in line with the provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020.

Under the law, all company business letters, including invoices, quotations, official correspondence and other business documents, must clearly display the company’s registered name, registration number, the present forenames or initials and surnames of its directors, any former forenames and surnames, as well as the nationality of every non-Nigerian director.

According to the commission, the enforcement will cover the full implementation of Sections 304(1), 304(2) and 304(1)(c) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020.

The CAC said companies incorporated under the Act are required to ensure the prescribed information appears in legible characters on all business letters and related documents.

It urged companies to review their business stationery and corporate documents ahead of the August 1 enforcement date to ensure full compliance and avoid regulatory sanctions.

The commission noted that the move is aimed at strengthening corporate transparency, improving regulatory compliance and ensuring adherence to statutory disclosure requirements by registered companies.
