Facebook Rolls Out Exclusive Seller App For Marketplace Users

Meta-owned Facebook has launched a dedicated mobile application for its most active Marketplace sellers, alongside a free identity verification system, as the social media giant pushes to build more specialised, single-purpose experiences within its ecosystem.

The new app, called Seller, gives users who list and sell items frequently on Facebook Marketplace a separate space to manage listings, message buyers, and track how their items are performing, rather than doing so within the main Facebook app. The company said the app syncs with Facebook Marketplace, meaning existing listings, messages and selling history carry over, while any listing created in the app also appears on Marketplace. Seller launched on the US App Store and is available to users aged 18 and older.

Facebook Marketplace, which is marking its tenth anniversary this year, sees more than 430 million monthly listings, Facebook said, and the company counts more than 1.1 billion active users on the platform, making Marketplace a key reason younger users remain engaged.

Alongside Seller, Facebook is introducing Facebook Verified, a free system that lets users confirm they are real people rather than bots. The company said the process involves taking a selfie to verify authenticity, after which a verification mark appears on the user’s profile across Facebook Dating, Marketplace and Groups. Verification is done through a video selfie compared against a user’s existing profile photos, Facebook said, and the badge will appear on Marketplace, Dating, Groups and profile pages.

The new verification mark takes the form of a checkmark within a white circle, distinct from the blue badge available through the paid Meta Verified subscription. Meta said the badge helps confirm a real person is behind an account, though it does not eliminate the risk of scams.

Facebook is also testing an optional, full-screen immersive video interface that opens automatically when users launch the app. The company said the update will first roll out in “video-heavy” international markets before reaching the US next year, with users able to switch back to the standard feed view at any time.

The Seller launch follows Meta’s release of Forum, a Reddit-style app for Facebook Groups, in May, and Pocket, a vibe-coding app, earlier this month. Meta said it plans to add AI-powered tools to Seller, including features to help sellers automatically generate product descriptions.

The moves comes as Meta faces growing competition in social commerce from rivals such as TikTok Shop and Whatnot.
