Edemekong Uyoh Assumes New Role As Global Head Of Marketing, English & School Education At British Council

A marketing and communications strategist, Edemekong Uyoh has assumed a new role as Global Head of Marketing, English and School Education at British Council.
In her new role, Edemekong will be responsible for leading the marketing and communications strategy, planning and execution for the British Council’s English and School Education portfolio across 100+ countries worldwide.
Prior to her new apppointment, she served as a Board Member of British Council Programmes (Nigeria) Ltd/Gte Board of Directors where her responsibilities include the provision of strategic oversight, contributing to business performance, ensuring regulatory compliance and sustainable governance for the British Council Nigeria’s operations.
Speaking on her new role, she wrote on her LinkedIn handle ‘Over the last couple of weeks, I have assumed the role of Global Head of Marketing for the British Council’s English and School Education portfolio. This enables me to support the British Council’s role in enhancing the quality of education by building capability in the English Language through teacher professional development and school leadership, and developing life skills in disadvantaged young people (including at times of conflict and crisis).”
Edemekong is a marketing and communications strategist with a vision is to be a part of a generation of outstanding brand builders launching Nigerian brands in the global recognised brand space with comparable brand equity to renowned international brands; and also successfully launch international brands in Nigeria with a stronger infusion of the local tenets and preferences; making the brands truly global yet still regarded as “ours” by the locals.
She started her career journey as Deputy, Client Service Manager at Brand Believers Limited where she garnered multi-category experience in managing global and local brands across the Telecommunications, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Sports, Investments, Arts and Financial products and services.
She then moved to Chain Reactions Nigeria, a public relations and reputation management agency as Brand Communications Manager. She also served at Etisalat Nigeria (now 9mobile), a Telecommunications Company as Retail Communications, Specialist.
Edemekong holds Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from University of Calabar, she is also a member of Nigerian Women in PR, The Chartered Institute of Marketing, as well as the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) formerly Advertising Practitioner Council of Nigeria (APCON).
