APRA, NAMPA Forge Strategic Pact Ahead Of 2026 Communicators Conference/AGM In Namibia

The African Public Relations Association (APRA) and the Namibian Press Agency (NAMPA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration ahead of the 2026 Effective Communicators Conference (ECC) and Annual General Meeting holding in Namibia. The agreement formalises plans for both organisations to jointly host the continental event scheduled for July 14–17, 2026, in Swakopmund.
The conference, themed “Communication Reconsidered: A Driving Force for Constant Progress,” is being organised in partnership with Namibia’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, led by Minister Emma Theofelus. Activities leading up to the conference were unveiled in Windhoek following the signing of the MoU.
According to APRA, the conference will bring together professionals and stakeholders from public relations, journalism, marketing, government communication and digital media to discuss how communication can support Africa’s development and future growth. The association said the initiative aligns with its goal of promoting communication as a key driver of progress while encouraging knowledge sharing and professional development across the continent.
Speaking through APRA Secretary-General, Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan, APRA President Arik Karani described the partnership as an important step toward advancing ethical, evidence-based and responsible communication practices in Africa. He said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to strengthening trust, stability and prosperity through effective communication.
The 2026 conference will feature six strategic forums covering diplomacy, business, journalism, government communication, public relations and digital storytelling. Organisers say the sessions will provide a platform for leaders, communication practitioners and policymakers to exchange ideas and address emerging challenges in the communication landscape.
More than 1,000 participants are expected to attend the event, which will also host APRA’s 2026 Annual General Meeting. The gathering is expected to serve as a precursor to APRA’s 37th Annual Conference, scheduled to take place in Abuja, Nigeria, in November 2026 during the World Public Relations Forum.
