Oyo NIPR Tasks FG On Insecurity, Unemployment, Others

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Oyo State chapter, has tasked the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government on addressing the myriads of security, unemployment issues and the youth restiveness plaquing the country.
The Chapter made this appeal in a communique it issued at its April meeting, presided over by Goke Adelakun, Chairman of the Oyo State NIPR in reaction to the recent spate of repeated attacks in Kaduna State.
In the communique signed by Alhaji Adewole Soladoye, Paul Akano, and Comrade Rotimi Agboluaje respectively, the Chapter decried the spate of insecurity in Kaduna State which is described as the epicentre of military formations and institutions. Noting that it is supposed to be among the most secured of locations in the country.
It also stated that Kaduna State has become the target of terrorists and bandits whereas this is a state which is supposed to be a fortress and sanctuary for the nation.
Against this backdrop, it called on the Federal Government to to address situation without delay, emphasizing that intelligence gathering is the key in dealing with the dilemma.
The institute also railed against ritual killings which are said to have become pervasive in every part of the country. They called on the Federal Government to link up with traditional leaders, local organisations, and non-formal security organisations as well as make use of local intelligence.
It was also discussed that governments at all levels must take steps to tackle the increasing rate of unemployment, and youth restiveness and end the protracted ASUU strike.
“Crises and anarchy in the country are rooted in youth unemployment. Many youths are unemployed and underemployed and idleness among the youths is fueling crises and insecurity in the country.
“Connecting with idleness and youth restiveness in the country are the protracted strike by university lecturers. The unending labour crisis which is dealing a deadly blow to the nation’s ivory towers has made the students idle and restive. It is also compounding insecurity in the country,” the communique read.
In furtherance to the meeting, another issue that was pointed out by the NIPR was the high rate of power outage in the country, saying the development has crippled many companies, small and large scale, with many relocating to adjoining countries, therefore, urging the government to overhaul the power sector to prevent the total collapse of the real sector and other strategic industries.
