Folake Ani-Mumuney Honourably Bows Out Of FirstBank, Ends Remarkable Career of Excellence, Service

After years of exceptional leadership and transformative contributions, marketing leader, Folake Ani-Mumuney, FirstBank Group’s highly revered Global Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, has announced her resignation from the institution.
Her departure marks the conclusion of a distinguished chapter in one of Nigeria’s foremost financial institutions, where she has left an indelible mark on its brand, operations, and legacy.
In a heartfelt message shared with colleagues and partners, Ani-Mumuney reflected on her journey at FirstBank, expressing gratitude for the partnerships and collaborations that defined her tenure. “There comes a time in this journey called life when one draws a curtain on a particular phase or season,” she wrote. “That time has come for me as I bow out of FirstBank.”
Her resignation coincides with the bank’s 130th anniversary, a milestone year she described as symbolic of her departure. “It is fitting that I draw the curtain with flourish, in thanksgiving,” she added, inviting her colleagues to celebrate her journey and achievements.
Expressing her confidence in the capabilities of the team she leaves behind and describing them as a “strong front bench”, she urged them to continue in the spirit of collaboration to the inmovestitution to greater heights.
“Do raise a glass in toast to … finishing well!” she concluded.
Ani-Mumuney’s professional trajectory is a reflection of her brilliance, innovation, and an unrelenting pursuit of excellence. Joining FirstBank Group as Chief Image Maker, she brought a wealth of experience that spanned continents and sectors. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Chief Marketing & Corporate Communications Officer for the Dangote Group, where she was instrumental in shaping the conglomerate’s global narrative.
Her illustrious career also includes a tenure at British Airways, where she managed brand policies and communications across 59 countries in Europe and Africa. It was her decision to return to Nigeria that catalyzed a new phase in her career.
Under her leadership at FirstBank, Ani-Mumuney redefined the role of marketing and communications in the financial sector, steering the institution’s brand strategy across its subsidiaries, including FBN Holdings, Asset Management, Investment Banking, Private Equity, Insurance, and Pension Fund Custodian services.
Among her many contributions, Ani-Mumuney was the Chairman of the Board of FBN Insurance Brokers, where she spearheaded strategic initiatives that bolstered the subsidiary’s profitability and market presence.
A trailblazer in every sense, she was the first female President of the Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN). Her influence extended beyond the corporate world, as she actively participated in public-sector advisory roles, contributing to Nigeria’s development in areas such as technology, health, education, and women’s empowerment.
A staunch advocate for mentorship and gender equality, Ani-Mumuney’s involvement in organizations such as WIMCA, WISCAR and WimBiz are a reflection of her passion for empowering the next generation. Her contributions to diversity and inclusion have left a lasting impact, with mentees and colleagues attesting to her support and guidance.
Her accolades include three Lifetime Achievement Awards, recognition from international and local organizations, and numerous professional affiliations. She is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK and the National Institute of Marketing Nigeria, and an Honorary Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
An alumna of the University of Lagos and the University of Buckingham, she also attended the prestigious Harvard Business School Advanced Management Programme. With certifications from leading business schools worldwide, her academic credentials are a proof to her dedication to continuous learning and growth.
