WIMCA 2024: To Become More, Go Beyond Hierarchy, Embrace Multidimensional Success, Says Victor Afolabi

The Group CEO of Hazon Holdings Mr. Victor Afolabi has stressed that to become more, female marketing communications professionals must go beyond hierarchy and embrace multidimensional success.

Afolabi said this while delivering his keynote speech on the topic “On Becoming More” at WIMCA’s 10th anniversary, which was recently held at the Landmark Event Centre VI, Lagos.

Speaking further he said that success is not about reaching a destination but constantly expanding one’s horizons. He encouraged female marketing and communications professionals to focus on becoming a force for innovation, transformation, and leadership and never to limit themselves by a linear progression on the corporate ladder.

Speaking on why it is important to become more, he said, the evolving industry has placed demands for diversity, innovative perspectives in leadership and the digital transformation reshaping roles. Afolabi advised everyone to explore cross-functional and entrepreneurial paths and view obstacles as opportunities for reinvention.

His words, “Have a mind shifts for becoming more, think beyond the ladder, explore cross-functional and entrepreneurial paths, turn challenges into launchpad, adopt an abundance mindset and believe in boundless possibilities.”

He also outlined new opportunities for women to become more, the use of representation in shaping narratives, leveraging unique insights to redefine markets among others.

Afolabi stated that self-reflection on assessing strengths, passions and goals, continuous, networking, mentorship, and seeking and providing guidance for mutual growth are all frameworks for becoming more.

Earlier in his welcome address, the convener of WIMCA, Mr. Joshua Ajayi said that the will to win, the desire to succeed and the urge to reach one’s full potential are the keys that will unlock the doors to personal excellence.

Speaking on the 10th anniversary, he said, “Celebrating our anniversary as we clock ten years in the vanguard of relentlessly promoting women’s empowerment feels so good. We’re extremely excited to share this milestone with everyone present and to take this moment to look forward to the future together.”

The conference featured a fireside chat session with Folake Ani-Mumuney, an experienced, well-rounded C Suite Executive; Folake is the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Directors of FBN Insurance Brokers and Vice Chairman of Junior Achievement Nigeria.

The conference which was a full-day event also featured three powerful panel sessions and a position paper on ‘The Place of Emotional Intelligence on Becoming More’.
