The president of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), Mr. Lanre Adisa has revealed that the association under his administration is poised to establish the much-talked-about Advertising School and take LAIF awards to global standards, during its 20th-anniversary celebration this year.

Mr. Lanre Adisa said the purpose of the school is to groom young talents and increase the competitive edge of the country’s marketing communications industry.

Mr. Adisa, who disclosed this in an exclusive interaction with Brand Communicator, said that having a functional advertising school was one way of moving the industry forward.

His words, “We have always spoken about in the past about establishing our advertising school for the association. But this particular administration is committed to making that a reality. We will build that school and give people who come to the school a programme like nobody else is giving in Nigeria today. “

“We need to start flying the Nigerian flag proudly across the continent and the world. With work coming from here, giving voice to our identity, culture and daily lives. So, it’s important to give newcomers the right foundation and the right tools to understand what marketing communications is all about. It’s only when one understands the rules, that one can start breaking them if need be to get the work done,” he added.

The AAAN president who emphasized the importance of grooming young talents said that the association is currently embarking on training programmes for starters while it works on a more permanent solution which is the school of advertising.

Explaining what should be expected from the school he said, “Training here will not be like what is gotten in regular schools, there will be no fluff or theory, it’s going to be purely practical about what is obtainable in the Nigerian advertising industry because this is where we all started from. The school will speak to our industry, we will have enough fresh and young talents by this and everyone in the industry will benefit from it.”

Also, Adisa spoke passionately about the 20th-anniversary celebration of the Lagos Advertising and Ideas Festival (LAIF) Awards and said it will not be business as usual as this year’s celebration will focus on celebrating creativity in the industry.

He said, “ Just watch this space, we are not taking it business as usual this year. We are taking this as a very important landmark not just for LAIF, or for AAAN but for our industry, to celebrate creativity, which is top on our agenda for this year. As we go into the year, we will reveal details.”

Speaking about LAIF, he said that the award has grown to become a symbol of excellence and a platform that showcases the ingenuity and resilience of the advertising industry. A beacon for the creative talent that abounds in Nigeria, setting the stage for bold ideas and impactful storytelling and a platform to showcase the best of creativity not only in Nigeria but also in the West African sub-region.
