Nigerian music star, Wizkid has become the first African artist to surpass 11 billion total streams on Spotify across all credited appearances, marking another major milestone for Afrobeats on the global stage. The achievement is attributed to data shared by music analytics platform Charts Africa.

According to the reports, he is also the first African artist to hit earlier Spotify milestones including one billion, two billion and 10 billion streams.

This streaming milestone further strengthens Wizkid’s position as one of Africa’s most commercially successful music exports.

The latest numbers come just days after the release of “State of Mind,” his collaboration with DJ Tunez, which was released on May 15, 2026. Reports say the song generated more than 685,000 Spotify streams globally within its first full day on the platform.

Beyond the numbers, the achievement highlights the growing global influence of Nigerian music and Afrobeats. Over the last decade, streaming platforms such as Spotify have helped African artists reach wider international audiences, turning local stars into global brands. Wizkid has remained one of the leading faces of that movement through collaborations, international tours and chart success.

One of his biggest global records came through “One Dance,” the hit collaboration with Drake and Kyla, which became the first Spotify song involving an African artist to surpass one billion streams.

The new record also reflects the increasing commercial value of African music in the digital economy. Nigerian artists including Burna Boy, Tems, Rema and Asake have all recorded major streaming successes in recent years, showing how Afrobeats has evolved from a regional sound into a global business force.

This Spotify milestone is another sign of how African entertainment continues to command global attention, audience loyalty and digital engagement at scale.
