Chinwendu Ohakpougwu Pitches Tent With Coronation Merchant Bank As Head, Marketing & Comms

Marketing communications professional and one of Brandcom Awards’ top 35 under 35, Chinwendu Ohakpougwu has yet again climbed the corporate ladder with her recent appointment as Head, Marketing & Communications for Coronation Merchant Bank.
In her new position, Chinwendu will be expected to lead the bank’s brand, marketing, media relations, and corporate communications efforts among others, to enhance its visibility and reputation.
She is also expected to develop strategic campaigns and stakeholder engagement initiatives that support business growth and strengthen the bank’s market position.

Before joining Coronation Merchant Bank, Chiwendu was Communications Manager at Paga, where she led strategic communications across Paga Group’s three business lines like the Paga Engine (B2B payments infrastructure), Paga (consumer), and Doroki (SMB), with end-to-end ownership of corporate, executive, and product communications.
She was also Group Head, Marketing and Communications at TrustBanc Financial Group.
Her career journey started as a non-financial player, working as a Reporter at Sahara Reporters Media Group, where she conducted investigative journalism in high-risk areas, providing in-depth coverage of critical issues such as the Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB uprising of 2017.
She then moved to work with the globally acclaimed Nigerian novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, as her communications assistant, with the responsibility of implementing and planning communications strategies, as well as monitoring client-related matters published in the media.
She also worked at Renmoney, where she was the Corporate Communications Officer, managing the daily PR activities on Renmoney Microfinance Bank. She also served as Communications Account Manager at Hill+Knowlton Strategies with the responsibility of managing the day-to-day PR account activities for FBNQuest, Visa, WorldRemit, Standard Chartered, AgustoandCo, and WARIF.
Chinwendu also served as Head, Corporate Communications and the Group’s Corporate Communications Manager at DLM Capital.
She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) as well as a Diploma in Media Studies from Saylor Foundation. She is also certified in Public Relations from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
