NIPR, NCC Deepen Ties To Boost Nigeria’s Strategic Communications Ecosystem

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) have reinforced their partnership to strengthen professionalism, capacity building and stakeholder engagement across Nigeria’s communications ecosystem. The organisations said this in a recent courtesy visit by NIPR officials to the NCC headquarters in Abuja, led by Dr. Ike Neliaku, President of the Institute.
During the visit, Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice-Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NCC, who received the NIPR high-level delegation, said their visit underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in promoting public trust, institutional excellence, and the sustained growth of the communications space in Nigeria. The meeting of the two organisations focused on strengthening existing ties, exploring new areas of collaboration and fostering strategic partnership ahead of the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) 2026, which will hold in November in Abuja.
NCC officials highlighted the commission’s long-term emphasis on strategic partnerships as part of its institutional agenda, saying closer links with professional communications bodies will help the regulator deliver clearer, more consistent public information and enhance stakeholder relations. NIPR leaders, for their part, signalled readiness to support NCC through capacity-development programmes, thought leadership and standards for ethical public relations practice across the telecoms sector.
The two organisations also discussed practical ways to collaborate, such as joint workshops, media training for regulatory staff, and coordinated public education campaigns on consumer rights, service quality and digital inclusion, although no formal memorandum or detailed timetable was announced at the visit. Observers say such cooperation could help reduce miscommunication during policy rollouts and improve public understanding of regulatory decisions that affect millions of telecom consumers nationwide.
Commenting on the visit to the telecoms sector regulatory Commission, the NIPR leadership said in a statement via its verified social media account that momentum has continued to build for the successful hosting of the World Public Relations Forum “Abuja 2026”, as more strategic national institutions come on board to support the global event. The Institute affirmed that both the NCC and NIPR “are exploring strategic areas of collaboration to ensure WPRF Abuja 2026 is delivered in line with best international standards.” It also urged Nigerians to be part of the transnational event, stating “the world is coming to Nigeria this November. Don’t just watch history unfold, be part of it.”
This engagement follows earlier instances of mutual support: NCC executives have congratulated and worked with NIPR on events and professional recognitions, and both institutions have referenced one another in strategic planning and public outreach activities. By formalising skills exchange and joint public campaigns, the NCC and NIPR aim to elevate the quality of strategic communication in Nigeria’s fast-changing digital and telecommunications landscape.
