Why Dochase’s Chibuike Goodnews Took Africa’s AdTech Story to Shanghai

For years, browser gaming has largely been viewed as an entertainment product. Chibuike Goodnews believes it is becoming something much bigger. It is emerging as one of the next frontiers for digital advertising across Africa.

That was the message the Founder of Dochase Adx and Doch Games took to Pocket Gamer Connects Shanghai 2025,where he addressed global game developers and publishers on “Distribution Strategies & Partnerships for Scaling H5 Games Across Africa and Emerging Markets.”

Rather than presenting Africa as simply another gaming market, Goodnews positioned the continent as an untapped distribution opportunity for developers seeking new audiences beyond saturated markets in Asia and North America.

His presentation argued that the future of H5 gaming in Africa will be driven by browser-first experiences, strategic partnerships and advertising infrastructure capable of reaching millions of users instantly.

Unlike conventional mobile games that require app installations, H5 games run directly in browsers, eliminating download barriers while reducing data consumption and storage requirements. According to Goodnews, these characteristics make the format particularly suited to Africa’s mobile-first, Android-dominated digital economy.

Drawing from Doch Games’ experience, he revealed that the platform has grown to more than one million active players across over 200 browser-based games, all requiring zero downloads.

Beyond gaming, the presentation highlighted what this means for advertisers.

Goodnews argued that gaming environments are rapidly evolving into premium advertising inventory where consumers actively engage with content instead of passively scrolling through feeds. For brands, this creates opportunities to build stronger customer journeys across awareness, engagement and conversion.

He also explained why conventional user acquisition strategies often fail across emerging markets.

According to him, dependence on app stores, expensive acquisition campaigns and cold-start marketing ignores the realities of African consumers, where peer recommendations, community discovery through platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram, affordable data usage and instant accessibility drive adoption.

Instead, he advocated a partnership-led distribution model, encouraging developers to integrate with established gaming destinations that already have active communities rather than attempting to build audiences from scratch.

Supporting that approach is Dochase’s broader advertising ecosystem.

The company operates Dochase DSP, a programmatic advertising platform that reaches more than two million websites and applications across Africa and serves over 1,000 brands through display, native, video and rich media advertising. The ecosystem also includes Doch Games, Retain, an AI-powered campaign management platform, and Scrola, a social gaming and AI-driven advertising application designed for emerging markets.

Goodnews explained that developers who integrate with Doch Games gain immediate access to the platform’s community, monetisation infrastructure and programmatic advertising network, removing the need for extensive user acquisition campaigns before generating revenue.

He identified rewarded video advertising as the most effective monetisation format for emerging markets while highlighting the growing importance of local payment infrastructure such as M-Pesa, MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money, Flutterwave and Paystack in supporting gaming commerce.

One of the presentation’s strongest messages was that Africa’s opportunity window remains open, but not indefinitely.

Comparing Africa with Southeast Asia and the Middle East, where early entrants established dominant positions before user acquisition costs increased, Goodnews argued that Africa, South Asia and Latin America are currently experiencing similar growth windows simultaneously.

“Waiting is not neutral,” he said, explaining that every month developers delay entering these markets is another month competitors build audiences, collect user data and strengthen network effects.

For Dochase, the Shanghai presentation represented more than international visibility. It showcased how a Nigerian adtech company is contributing to global conversations on browser gaming, programmatic advertising and digital distribution while reinforcing Africa’s growing relevance in the future of digital advertising.
